These Fashion Graduates from College of St. Benilde Are the Ones to Watch

88 tales told through 171 looks sent down the runway—this year’s Sinulid, the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde’s annual graduation show, was the biggest yet, and perhaps the most introspective to date. “This year, we have entitled the event ‘Sinulid: Stories Unraveled’ because we wanted to focus on the students’ stories on how they were going up all the challenges they encountered. They [picked] a certain event in their life and they [turned] it into a collection, so it’s really personal,” said Tracey Tabora, the school’s Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) Academic Adviser, in an interview with The Benildean. Apt, we think. Winding through the venue on the big day was much like poring through a storybook: rows and rows of clothes lined the tents backstage at SM Aura’s Samsung Hall, each rack singular at a glance. One paraded technicolor, Bowie-inspired sequins, and another, the muted, sombre browns of our nation’s ubiquitous carabao. Their common solid ground? Talent, vision, and hard work. These are young masters in the making. Here, Preview has selected 24 of the graduating class’ best and brightest for a fashion editorial aimed at highlighting these fledgling designers’ skill and awe-inspiring attention to detail, structure, and craftsmanship. Make way, the future of fashion’s coming through.
