Gunita is Tagalog for memory or recollection. The collection is inspired by the mesmerizing colors of a flame and the juxtaposition of what it stands for: confidence and hope, destruction and anger. Combined to create something hopefully as beautiful and complex as a real person, reminiscent of the experiences that make each person unique. 

With that in mind, I opted to channel my own experiences- my identity which has always been tied to  my home country. I wanted the collection to be local but not necessarily Filipiniana. So came the idea to use primarily natural fibers and raw materials. Sourced locally and eco-friendly. These resources are not just representative of, and beneficial for my country, but it also reminds me of my childhood in the province, tying into my overarching theme of what makes up a person. 

Essentially, the collection is meant to showcase the possibilities of homegrown textiles by weaving a narrative of life represented through the stages of fire: a spark, a flame and ashes.
